Seaspiracy 8.5/10

Seaspiracy is a conspiracy documentary film that was released on March 24th, 2021. It was directed and starred by Ali Tabrizi, a British filmmaker. The film is considered one of the best films that examine various human impacts on marine life and advocates for ending fish consumption. Equally important, the film brought attention to its subject matter and attracted controversy over its scientific accuracy. Significantly, the film brought viewers into an expedition worldwide to study the leading causes of ocean life decimation as it focuses on rejecting the concept of sustainable fishing.

From what we can see, the director, as well as the producer, Kip Andersen, is in fact, passionate about the life in the ocean that humankind does not know, which explains the reason why he documented the harm that a portion of humanity did to marine species. What I can say about Seaspiracy is indeed stunning, tragic, emotional yet somehow a little too difficult to watch.

The Social Dilemma 8/10

The Social Dilemma goes into depth on how social media’s design is meant to cultivate an addiction, steer people and governments, and spread disinformation. The documentary focuses on the issue of social media’s effect on mental health. Moreover, the documentary features interviews with many former employees, executives, and other professionals from top tech companies and social media platforms such as Facebook, Google, Twitter, Mozilla, and YouTube.

The interviewees narrated their experiences at their companies to discuss how such platforms have caused negativity in the aspect of social, political, and cultural consequences. Although, some interviewees provided some positive points regarding the usage of social media. It has provided some positive change for society. Most of them argued on how “something needs to change” in this world of social media.
