Les Misérables 9/10 Les Misérables is based on the famous stage show adaptation of Victor Hugo's epic novel set among the deserving poor in 19th-century France. It has been adapted to film dozens of times since its publication in 1862. The story is about Jean Valjean, a decent man imprisoned for stealing bread to save his sister's family from starving breaks parole to start life anew. He soon becomes the caretaker of a young girl but his past comes back to catch up with him. In this movie, there is a lot to admire but at the same time, the great pieces didn't quite fit together to make a perfect whole. The pace, as well as the epic presentation and striking tragedies, is surprisingly well handled. A complicated musical composition, together with their notes and songs, connects the characters and stories. I had never like musical movies or theatres before I watch Les Misérables. It is indeed one of the best movies I have ever seen. The Greatest Showman 8/10 The Greatest Showman is a masterpiece of design, music, and picture. This movie is based on factual events. It is about the beginning low-class entertainment shows that transformed into the famous Barnum & Bailey Circus. P.T. Barnum, who starts out as a penniless and lonely orphan, becomes the world-renowned creator of the circus. What stands the movie apart is its relevance to today’s times. It had touched upon social issues like class discrimination or hate toward human abnormalities that continue to plague our society even today. The message of how every person is special is truly inspiring. The Greatest Showman's charming leads and circus scenes should make it a fun pick for families who enjoy history, musical theatre, and the circus. Which musical movie is your favourite? |
